ITGAP FAQ

Why ITGAP?

ITGAP was established to assure varietal purity and identity. Through a set of production protocols and guidelines, we can maintain the genetic and mechanical purity of specific turfgrass varieties.

Is ITGAP a standard?

Yes. ITGAP certifies a proven process. It is a recommended set of proven and recognized guidelines to help ensure purity and quality against contamination.

Do I need a license to grow certified turfgrass?

ITGAP does not manage licenses. Some varieties require licenses and others don't, all licensing is managed by individual breeders. However, most breeders require that their growers follow the ITGAP standards.

What is the difference between patented and certified turfgrasses.

A certified turfgrass has a traceable genealogy and track record of characteristics that are consistent and reproducible. A patent assures the breeder ownership of the variety and ensures the genetics are monitored. The genes are the same in both patented and certified.

What turfgrasses are included under ITGAP?

Is there a fee associated with ITGAP?

Yes. Member growers pay an annual fee and require annual inspections as part of the program. For more information call or email ITGap@Gacrop.org

Is ITGAP a complex process?

Becoming a member grower is not complex, but does require a commitment to adhere to a stringent set of guidelines.

Who else supports ITGAP?

ITGAP continues to grow and includes a number of supporters, including the University of Georgia, Georgia Crop Improvement Association and a number of architects, breeders and growers worldwide.

How will the industry benefit from ITGAP?

ITGAP promotes the genetic purity of turfgrass and fights against piracy. The result is that golf course personnel get the turfgrass and performance they expect.
